Connected to the main beach of Matalascañas , there is also a long and wide beach that is known by the name the Playa de Castilla. This beach wounds for around 40km from the Guadalquivir estuary that is located at the southeast of the route Matalascañas to Mazagón along the northeast.
The best beach for many, however, is the one that is nearest the center of Matalascañas. We are now referring to the Torre de la Higuera which is just west of the village. However, the beach nearest to the center of Matalascañas can really get very crowded during summer, it might also be wise to stray from it on peak seasons. This beach has a 4km-long promenade called the Paseo Marítimo where you can find the best fish restaurants and bars in the area. In here, there are excellent like lifeguards along with showers, hire for parasols and deckchairs. Chiringuitos or beach bars are open for the summer.
If you happen to be there already when the crowd starts pouring into the beach, you can always resort to nearby beaches during summer. Never to worry, Matalascañas has good choices of quieter beaches. You can explore from the east of the town by walking along the beach alongside the boundary of the Parque Nacional de Donaña . In here you can find a good spot for bird watching while looking for the perfect area to lay and enjoy a good soak in the sun and beach.

Then there s the west of Matalascañas on towards the Mazagón where the beaches are backed by sandstone cliffs. However, the best beach in going east of Huelva city is at the Cuesta de Maneli. This place is signposted at Km38 on the A494 on the route to Mazagón . In here you can make use of their car park that is a 10-minute pleasant stroll from the dunes and pine trees along a wooden walkway from the beach. It might also interest you to know that there is a nudist section on this particular beach.
It must be well noted that the beaches in the town are proudly called the 'Virgin beaches'. These beaches are characterized by being very clean and beautiful, thus the title of virgin. In fact, the beaches from Matalascañas to Mazagon are around 30 km long, and one of the few unspoilt and unexploited beaches of Spain. This beach is very attractive to birds like gulls, oyster catchers and the plovers. Actually, one of the species endemic here is the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus.) This beautiful bird even lays its eggs at the embryo dunes of the beach.
