Every 23rd of June the denizens of Barbate celebrate the "Verbena de San Juan". During this celebration the local crowds gather on the beach during the night to burn images of the disputed local or national celebrities or notorious politicians.
Every 16th of July they have the "Feria del Carmen" which is for Saint Carmen who is the patron saint of fishermen. This particular festival also has a religious importance for the town.
There s also the Gran Sardina which celebrates the "Festival of the Great Sardine" and takes place in the fishing port.
