Sanlúcar De Barrameda is a city in the northwestern part of the province of Cádiz and has a population of 61,900.
This town has been famed by Columbus himself, as he sailed from Sanlúcar in 1498 and also Magellan in 1519. The people living near the sea area are known as Bajo de Guía and are exclusively dedicated to the fishing today.
These days the income of the town comes from people who combine their effort in fishing, with restaurants with menu that offer fish and other seafood fished just a day before. Others make their living out of the labor of camp activities which require less manpower, as well as work in the grape harvest in fields between Sanlúcar, Jerez de la Frontera or Puerto de Santa María . The city center, meanwhile, is full of commercial life along with the old monuments like the monastery, churches, and etc. Generally, Sanlúcar is a popular destination because of its great beaches and exotic bathing resorts and various hotels which also contributed to the new people who arrived to the old town with the growing tourism.
